Locate It: Carnesville

Just a few miles outside of town is 132-foot-long Cromer’s Mill Covered Bridge, built in 1907 with the town lattice design straddling Nail’s Creek. The bridge’s web of planks crisscrossing at 45-to 60-degree angles are fastened with wooden pegs, or trunnels, at each intersection. Will Cromer, a descendant of the original family, built the stone abutments.

The headquarters of the Franklin County Recreation Department is in Carnesville, at Rocky Ford Park, which features 68 acres of athletic fields, two gyms, and 2.5 miles of nature trails.
Make an appointment to ride (bring your own horse), bike, or hike the nature trails at Crockett Creek Crossing. With 11+ miles of wooded trails winding through old-growth hardwood forests, it is easy to spend the entire day here discovering nature, wading in sandy creeks, and escaping the noise of the city.
