The Vickery Creek unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is bordered by a Chattahoochee tributary known as Big Creek (aka Vickery Creek). This forested area features a network of trails beside the creek that take you to a waterfall and covered bridge.

Powers Island is one of the most serene sections of the recreation area and less traffic than its popular neighbor, Interstate North, just across the Chattahoochee River. A narrow trail makes a 2.5-mile loop as it follows the riverbank, offers broad views of the Chattahoochee, and climbs through dense forest to explore a portion of a ridge. If you’re looking for a quiet escape, this is a prime destination. Powers Island has a scenic trail system and a watercraft launch.

The park lands and waters are open for day-use only from dawn to dusk year round. Dawn is defined as 30 minutes before legal sunrise and dusk is defined as 30 minutes after legal sunset. The sunrise and sunset hours are posted at the information kiosk located throughout the park.

At Island Ford, you can spend your time soaking up history at the Hewlett Lodge visitors center or hike the easy-to-moderate 5.5-mile trail that hugs the banks of the river before cutting back through woodlands. The Hewlett Lodge Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except December 25.

This park on the shores of West Point Lake provides direct boat access, RV and primitive camping sites, picnic pavilions, bathhouses, baseball field, basketball court, and playground. Currently home to American Bald Eagles.

Macon’s own musical legend Otis Redding is immortalized as a life-size statue at Gateway Park, on a bank of the Ocmulgee River.

The Preserve boasts more than 40 caves. Access to this land via the VPA agreement is for hunting only. All other activities such as hiking, fishing, or caving is strictly managed by the Southeastern Cave Conservancy International (SCCi). SCCi requires advance permits to visit.

Cedar Creek Reservoir is a 536-acre park with a 143-acre lake and 393 wooded acres of beautiful countryside. Cedar Creek Reservoir has a small boat ramp for fishing enthusiasts with small, non-motorized boats. Hunting is not allowed. Leashed pets are allowed.

Cecil Bay RV Park offers 100 shady level sites with full hook ups, cable TV, and wireless internet access. We offer a club house and meeting space and even have our own private fishing ponds.

Park your RV, trailer, horse trailer or big rig in one of our 24 RV sites. Take the boat and go bass fishing at the pond. Explore pristine nature trails, and spot exotic birds and wildlife in this semi-tropical paradise.

All 10 RV sites are easily accessed via double wide entrance and exits ramps. Camp in large level sites, 30 or 50 amp, full hook-up and free WI-FI. RV Park has level, pull-thru sites that are Big Rig Friendly. Other amenities include water, and dumping for campers. Catch-out pond fishing is within walking distance of the RV Park.

Enjoy a stroll on the trail, go fishing, bring the kids to the playground, or just relax at one of the pavilions. The Recreation Center includes a Gymnasium, Kitchen, and Gameroom.

This converted shrimp boat, now a kayak mothership, is equipped to take you anywhere adventure calls.

One of the largest rice plantations in the South was the Butler Island Plantation. The site is now owned by The Nature Conservancy, and the land (excluding the house) is open to the public for picnicking, fishing and birding.

At the entrance of the Bussey Point wilderness recreation area, 14 primitive campsites without water or electrical, do have picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. All 14 campsites are capable of accommodating campers with horses.

This new Heard County Park allows easy kayak / canoe access to #bushheadshoals and Daniels Shoals near Franklin, Georgia on the Chattahoochee River. In addition to a kayak ramp, there are also primitive camping facilities, and an outfitter renting kayaks.
