Swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing on Lake Hartwell are prime reasons to visit Hart Outdoor Recreation Area in northeast Georgia. The park’s boat ramps and docks offer easy access to all water sports. Visitors can also enjoy hiking/biking trails and a children’s playground.

Bermuda fairways and greens welcome shots from four different sets of tees. Tree-lined fairways, four dog-legs, three ponds and a well positioned creek on the finishing hole gives golfers choices and go-for-it opportunities!

Hartwell Lake is one of the Southeast’s largest and most popular public recreation lakes. Each year, millions of people use the many public parks, marinas and campgrounds located around the lake.

This 15-foot falls is on a scenic trail directly across from Moccasin Creek State Park. The trail is one of Rabun County’ most scenic and features two pretty cascades falling into Moccasin Creek. Children may be interested in the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery next door to the campgrounds. From Clarkesville, take state Route 17 to Alternate SR 255. When this road dead ends, turn right onto SR 255. In Batesville, turn left onto SR 197, driving past LaPrade’s at Lake Burton to Moccasin Creek State Park.

See this gorgeous succession of five waterfalls with an estimated total vertical drop of 300° located in a 170-acre scenic area. The High Shoals Trail follows along High Shoals Creek to observation decks beside two of the five streams cascading in the High Shoals Scenic Area.

The forest offers a ‘talking tree trail’ through a mountain hardwood forest, a forest diorama exhibit, a pond and the Etowah River for water studies, a soil profile site, picnic tables, and restroom facilities. Closed on state holidays.

Everyone who makes the five-mile trek through the mountains to the Hike Inn in the Chattahoochee National Forest does so for a different reason. Some come to get away from their everyday lives. Hog Mountain Sports Complex is a School-In-A-Park Project adjacent to CW Davis Middle School, South Hall Middle School and Flowery Branch High School. This 28-acre site is devoted to active sports use and includes 1 practice soccer field, 1 baseball field, 1 softball field, 2 baseball/softball fields, and 6 lighted tennis courts.

Holcomb Creek Falls has a dramatic 120’ drop featuring a free-falling upper cascade and a steep, sliding lower drop. The moderately strenuous 0.3-mile trail to Holcomb Falls begins at the junction of FS-7 and FS-86, 6.5 miles off Warwoman Road. The trail descends steadily until it reaches the observation bridge at the falls. Continuing on the trail of one quarter of a mile leads to the viewing deck at Ammons Falls, a 40-foot waterslide.

Directions: From Clayton, Georgia take Warwoman Road east for 10 miles. Turn left onto Hale Ridge Road (Forest Service Road 7) for approximately 7-9 miles until it intersects Overflow Road (Forest Service Road 86).

Three Falls, Holcomb Creek Falls, Ammons Falls and a second falls on Holcomb Creek can be seen on a 2 mile loop hike beginning at the Holcomb Creek trailhead.

This lakeside park includes picnic pavilions and picnic tables, a boat ramp, and a fishing area.

Located near the rear of Upper Chattahoochee River Campground, the Horse Trough Falls Foot Trail leads to the stunning Horse Trough Falls and viewing deck where the beginning of the Chattahoochee River can be seen.

The nationally acclaimed ‘destination’ retreat is surrounded by the 750,000-acre Chattahoochee National Forest. All lighted sites have full hook-ups with concrete pads, cable TV, deck, table and barbeque grill.

This hands-on Children?s Museum is where children can role play and learn through practical experiences about being a banker, grocery store clerk, doctor, dentist and much more.

Connected to the Rock Creek Greenway, Gainesville’s oldest park is a tree-lined oasis great for a walk or run. Picnic tables and pavilion are available.

The Peach State earns its name with Jaemor Farms, with 30 varieties of the fruit grown in the adjacent orchards. Also enjoy the corn maze.
