Time on the water is time well spent, whether it’s on a river or lake. The Soque River is 30 miles long, starting and ending in Habersham County, feeding into the Chattahoochee. It is a great place to fish and is a favorite spot among fly-fishermen. A stretch of the Soque River that runs through private land is called Blackhawk. Blackhawk Fly Fishing offers lodging and fly-fishing guides. River North Fly Fishing presents guided fly-fishing tours along some of North Georgia’s best fast-water and deep-hole fly-fishing locations. Riverside Trout Farm is also a great spot to fly fish on the Soque River.

Lake Burton is home to LaPrade’s Marina, the best destination for lake activities. Moccasin Creek State Park is centrally located, making it the perfect place to explore waterfalls and mountain bike trails. Directly across from Moccasin Creek State Park, you can take the scenic trail to Hemlock Falls. This 15-foot fall is worth visiting, along with the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery next door. For another hiking spot, find Panther Creek Trail at the Panther Creek Recreation Area to hike and see stunning falls.

If golf interests you, then experience the most talked about golf course in the North Georgia foothills. Apple Mountain Golf Club is committed to making golf fun for all levels of players. Another great course is Orchard Golf & Country Club. This course is a private, 18-hole, championship golf course that offers memberships and has a swimming pool, pickleball and tennis courts, lodging, events, and dining. Additionally, The Quest Quarters at Orchard is a top spot to play a round of golf. This 18-hole championship course was designed by the famous Dan Maples and presents 5 sets of elevated tees, Bermuda fairways, and bent grass greens.

Bring your RV or rent a cabin and stay at Bleu Canoe. This 23-acre property boasts fire pits, trails, and yard games that are available to restaurant and campground guests.
